Hanji is a Korean traditional paper from paper mulberry made by hand through a traditional process of making paper. The paper has long been praised not only in Korea but also in other countries for its toughness and black ink permeates well inside the paper. Hanji has excellent preservation and because of these features Louvre Museum and Italian art pieces use Hanji to restore their collections. And lot of Korea’s cultural assets has been descended through this paper.
There are two versions of Hanji journal: night and day. Hanji journal is fixed with a metal decoration and holder called Duseok made by hammering and bending the metal plate on the anvil. In the night version, the paper was dyed with black ink, and the paper was fixed with nickel Duseok, which symbolizes the moon. The day version uses the original color of Hanji and is fixed with brass Duseok, which symbolizes the sun. All the pages of the journal were extracted from the paper mulberry peel by human hands. Each of these pages was manually bound together.
