The characteristic of our traditional dyes is that they are mainly natural resources through plants. Therefore, our traditional natural dyes are not only beautiful in color, but also easily absorbed into clothes, and are easily available. In addition, it has the advantage that a large amount of pigment can be obtained from a small amount, and that plants that are raw materials for dyes can be easily grown.

In particular, natural dyeing technology has been developed to maintain the color of dyed clothes in order to reinforce the weakness of fastness. For example, scarlet-dyed clothes were washed with Schisandra or plum water to maintain their color, and cauliflower was washed with urine to prevent discoloration. In addition, indigo color was washed with mung bean water or soft tofu water to prevent discoloration, and green color was washed with vinegar to prevent color change.

Such natural dyes have been used for thousands of years, but the collection of raw materials is limited, the dye extraction process is complicated, and the dyeing process has many repetitions, so it is labor-intensive and requires a high degree of skill. Since then, it has been gradually replaced by chemical dyes according to industrialization. However, recently, as the disadvantages of chemical dyes, such as water pollution in the dyeing process, have been greatly highlighted, interest in more environmentally friendly natural dyes has increased.
