Knotting is the action or craft of tying knots in yarn. and the Korean traditional decorative knotting, which forms a certain pattern, was used for clothes and house interior. Particularly Korean traditional knotting has great artistic value in color and beauty due to its robust practicality of expressing certain things. There are 33 types of knots patterns. In order to have a consistency over the various patterns, woven two different strings one after the other around the axis string made of several threads. in this process, blunt awl to arrange the gaps and space is used. No matter how complicated a knot is, it must be started and finished at the axis, and must be tighten gradually along the path. it is also important that making sure size of "Goh" is suitable for the thickness of axis. Therefore, decision on the color and thickness of the string is required to be done first.
Five cardinal colors are Korean traditional colors that is symbolizing the principle of order and universe. This necklace is made of five cardinal colors of blue, red, yellow, white and black colored silk thread using traditional knotting skill. It shares the harmony of variety and balance with us. Length of necklace is adjustable by knot at the end of necklace.
This product was produced by collaboration between Hyungmin Park who completed the National Intangible Cultural Property training course No. 22 Maedeupjang and Auroi's designer Kisang Gio. Also was produced as part of the program to strengthen the capacity of traditional skill that is supported by National Intangible Heritage Center.
